Steina's impressive multi-channel installation Tokyo Four consists of a video wall of 3 x 4 montiors, showing various images and sounds from traditional and postmodern Japan, recorded in Tokyo. These included images of the hustle and bustle near a lift in a public building, a traditional Japanese theatre, a Virtual Reality Performance, colourful articles displayed in a supermarket, images from the metro and of people eating in a restaurant. Because of the dynamic relationship between the images which repeatedly changed their configuration, and because of the way in which they sometimes fluently overlapped from one monitor to another, the video wall manifests itself both as an overall, shared, total space, and as a synchronistic distance with ever changing persectives.
