Birth's Child is a very simple tape. The Cameraman is fixed in a single position throughout, looking upwards towards a naked seated woman, against whose thigh a naked child is crying. When, after not much more than a minute, the mother does not respond to the child, litting him in her arms, the tape responds as well with fast edits paced on a heartbeat. 'The intendt ... was to express the fact of our physical isolation. That we are born into a swell, we cannot feel the feelings of others, the pain of a cut is disreet to each self.... we are born to our absolute aloneness through to our death..'
