Bea de Visser started her artistic practice by studying public space design and painting. Later, she moved towards the study of electro-acoustic sound. She began a performing arts career in staging sound production and live installations. Gradually she returned to painting during her two-year residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1993-1995).
Her current works are made within a broad artistic scope, ranging from independent art initiatives to established museums, and from the public space, to theatre and film. Through the usage of digital media, painting, and sound performance she explores the intimacy and complexity of human relations. In 2003, Bea de Visser establishes the independent production studio Anotherfilm in Rotterdam. At the end of 2005, Anotherfilm expands into a production company with the intention to actively cooperate and link up with the realisation and funding of independent quality films, theatre and film scenography and film installations on national and international scale. Since 2010, De Visser also works as a guest advisor at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and she occasionally gives workshops and lectures in various disciplines such as film, drama, theater design and fine art.
Her work is presented at international exhibitions among which MoMA New York, Woodstreet Galleries Pittsburgh, USA, MuKHA Antwerp, Belgium, National Museum Prague, Czech Republic and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Reina Sophia, Madrid and Jeu de Paume, Paris.. The films are shown world wide at International Film Festivals under which The International Film Festival Rotterdam, Rencontres Internationales in Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin.
