'Video graphics - the ultimate pictorial art', is the concise statement emanating from Livinus' works 'Moiré' and 'Percussie'. This is a video work by Livinus van de Bundt, with electronic music by his son Jeep. Livinus did not judge the possibilities of the medium in the context of the institution of television and its frames of reference, but rather, on its own specific graphic potential. He aimed at painting electronically with light, movement and sound. For this purpose, he built his own image synthesizer and generator, an action which marked the early beginnings of Dutch video art. To the aesthetics of the static image of the visual arts, Livinus added a new dimension, determined by electronics. Purposefully devoid of narrative or figuration - which are haracteristics appropriated by the institution of television - 'Moiré' and 'Percussion' are abstract, rhythmical video paintings without definitive form or colour.
