The Lovers: The Great Wall Walk - Marina (right) is a video of the performance The Lovers: The Great Wall Walk that follows the journey of Abramovic and is part of a two channel installation. After being in a relationship for twelve years, artist duo Abramovic and Ulay decided to end their relationship and artistic collaboration in 1988 and to mark this with a performance. After almost eight years of negotiations with the Chinese authorities, the artists got the permission to carry out The Lovers: The Great Wall Walk. Starting at both ends of the Great Wall, standing 5,995 kilometers apart from each other the couple walked from opposite sides to meet in the middle, embrace each other, say farewell and go separate ways. Abramovic started walking from the easter end of the Wall, at Shan Hai Guan, on the shores of the Yellow Sea walking westward. During her walk across she encounters crowded as well as remote more rough parts of the wall while the landscape continuously changes.
