Four boys, their hands in the air stand with their backs turned to a group of girls. The girls have their weapons trained on them and all maintain for a time this threatening posture. The girls pretend to shoot and the boys at the same time slowly sink to the ground. This is arguably the most explicitly violent scene from the series of fragments of 8 Lessons on Emptiness with a Happy End, one in which Abramovic puts some force behind her indictment of (the representation of) violence. On Channel 5, the leftmost screen of the installation, the scenes of children dressed as soldiers are also intercut with images of the landscape of Laos.
