Presented for the first time at De Appel gallery, Amsterdam, 'My thumb is fatter than my finger but just as agile' is a video installation with five monitors. On a large monitor on the right, we see a thumb drumming against a surface. In the adjacent four smaller monitors the other four fingers are performing a similar action. All together create a powerful and rhythmical sound. Evolving from video as a mere registration tool a more integrative use of the medium in relation to the body becomes evident here. Body art (or what is left of it) is no longer a collection of tape recordings of bodily actions, but becomes part of the recording medium itself - the five monitors are a mimetic representation of a human hand. In this way, video seems to take the place of he body.
