Discoveries takes place in the future 'somewhere in the middle of nowhere'. Using a mixture of images - some taken from the TV and some specifically dramatised, we see how the crew of the 'SS Enterprise' from the TV series Star Trek comes up against the spiralling pirate satellite Discovery. The spaceship of this nomadic TV pirate appears as a gigantic video camera. Discoveries tells how the pirate attempts to escape from various attackers, but there's more than one story-line here. Applying advanced computer techniques, Marroquin combines TV-images with original material. He uses the language of the SF series to annotate comments on the ominous influence of the media and the effects of commercialisation in our present time, in which simulations can no longer e distinguished from reality, and our daily do's and don'ts are subject to increasing control from above.
