"It’s not that our senses fall short, but you can enrich them with simple means. As such, I consider my films as sensory. Like another world that you can dive into for a moment. Joost Rekveld, de Volkskrant 2017
CCU and LIMA invite you for an inspiring evening with Joost Rekveld, the Dutch master of media art and experimental film.
For years now, Joost has been motivated by the question of what we can learn from a dialogue with machines. In his work, he explores the sensory consequences of systems of his own design, often inspired by forgotten corners in the history of science and technology.
The evening is introduced by Sanneke Huisman (LIMA media art platform, followed by Joost his talk in which he takes you through his extensive oeuvre and thereby gives a refreshing perspective on the history of media art and science.
About ART MACHINES
This evening marks the start of ART MACHINES: a new program initiated by CCU in collaboration with LIMA, consisting of a lecture, workshop Art Machines 0.2 - Workshop: ReCoding Joost Rekveld and development trajectory for new art works that will be concluded with an audiovisual club evening. Joost's lecture on Thursday is followed by a two-day workshop weekend in which talented artists, coders and designers develop new work, inspired by a work from Joost's oeuvre. The prototypes are presented at the Culturele Zondag Uitfeest. One work is then selected by a jury and, in addition to a sum of 5,000 euros, will be given an exhibition space at ART MACHINES 1.0, an audiovisual club evening with installations, live performances and music that will take place at the end of the year in the Werkspoorkwartier in Utrecht.
The programme is developed in collaboration with Creative Coding Utrecht, Sensor Lab and Filmtheater ‘t Hoogt.
ART MACHINES is made possible with the support of Creative Industry Fund, Gemeente Utrecht, KF Hein Fonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Fentener van Vlissingenfonds and the ANV.
