During this edition of LIMA Online - organised in close collaboration with artists Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum - we’ll watch three work from the LIMA collection through the lens of mobility. Under the titel City as Performative Object Polak and Van Bekkum will present some concluding thoughts on the eponymous workshop that brought together an international group of artists and academics.

Mobility is the core focus of the artistic practice of Polak and Van Bekkum, who mostly work outside, and in public space. The leading question for this evening will be if the focus on mobility can be applied on a less physical environment: the cinematographic space. And if so, how to analyse this space? By looking at camera movement, the protagonists, light and sound - or are there other elements more relevant to analyse? And which role does the viewer play in all this? Can we let go of the film as narrative and experience it as architecture?

Polak and Van Bekkum selected three works by the artists Douwe Dijkstra, Martijn Veldhoen and Giovanni Giaretta to take the viewer on a journey through time and space. Discover how movement can be anything if you allow yourself to travel with the mind.
