During this lecture at Kunstcafé, curator, art critic, writer and project leader of the Mediakunst op Wikipedia project at LIMA Sanneke Huisman traces the origins of video art and its development into media art over the decades to the present day with examples of high-profile artists and their works. In addition to well-known international artists such as Marina Abramović, the lecture also discusses a new generation of Dutch artists such as Melanie Bonajo, who will represent the Netherlands at this year's Venice Biennale.

Videos on television screens, large projections, robots, websites and technological installations: almost every museum nowadays has media art in house. Perhaps you have already become acquainted with video or media art and want to learn more about this art form or maybe you feel like exploring this new world of images.

Sanneke Huisman will share knowledge on media artists, their works, the history as well as the role of digital culture and technology within the art world. She will also elaborate on the project as a whole and on how you can contribute to more visibility for media art!

This is a partner project initiated by LIMA. The partners are Wikimedia Netherlands, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, Frans Hals Museum Haarlem and the Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE).

Video’s op televisieschermen, grote projecties, robots, websites en technologische installaties: bijna ieder museum heeft tegenwoordig wel mediakunst in huis. Misschien heeft u zelf al kennis gemaakt met video- of mediakunst en wilt meer te weten komen over deze kunstvorm - of u heeft zin in een ontdekkingstocht door deze nieuwe beeldwereld.

Huisman schetst de oorsprong van videokunst en de ontwikkeling tot mediakunst door de decennia heen tot de dag van vandaag – met voorbeelden van spraakmakende kunstenaars en hun werken. In het college komt naast bekende internationale kunstenaars zoals Marina Abramović ook een nieuwe generatie Nederlandse kunstenaars aan bod - denk bijvoorbeeld aan Melanie Bonajo die dit jaar Nederland op de Biënnale van Venetië vertegenwoordigt.

Huisman heeft tijdens dit Kunstcafé haar pet als projectleider bij LIMA van het project Mediakunst op Wikipedia op. Dit is een partnerproject geïnitieerd door LIMA. De partners zijn Wikimedia Nederland, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, Frans Hals Museum Haarlem en de Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (RCE).

Zij zal ook iets vertellen over dit project en hoe u, mocht u daar zin in hebben, bij kan dragen aan meer zichtbaarheid voor mediakunst!
