On Wednesday, March 23rd, LIMA teams up with the Association of Moving Image Archivist (AMIA) formed by UvA students to present a series of films and video artworks on the intersection of domestic work, reproductive labor, and the positioning of artistic endeavours in relation to the working body. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with artists of selected works.
‘Work’ and ‘labour’ are omnipresent inside and outside our domestic environments. Work never stops, and has an effect on our body–and the bodies of others. Work connects different bodies. Every working body relates to and affects other living and non-living bodies. The visible and/or unacknowledged conditions of work form the basis of our everyday life: from literal act of walking, holding, and carrying, to the contractual exchange of labour, increasingly indistinguishable from leisure. This screening programme dives into the poetics of work from corporeal, psychological, and collective angles. It also reflects on the ‘work’ of artists that respond to and critique such poetics.
About AMIA
The Association of Moving Image Archivists is an international nonprofit association dedicated to the preservation and use of moving image media. Students of the Media Studies masters at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) make up the student chapter of AMIA – UvA, aimed at finding ways to preserve and access different media collections.
